To be clear about what that means: DiW starts with an authentic Rolex GMT-Master II and replaces the case and various components with its own carbon and custom parts, so the watch is real Rolex at its core but is a customised piece rather than a factory Rolex product. Motley is DiW's mixed-carbon treatment, which gives every case a marbled pattern that is unique to that individual watch.

Underneath the custom exterior it keeps what makes a GMT a GMT: the genuine Rolex automatic movement, a 24-hour hand and rotating bezel that let you read a second time zone at a glance, and the date at 3 o'clock. That dual-time function was originally built for Pan Am pilots in the 1950s and is still the reason the model is the default travel watch. Because the case and components are aftermarket, this watch sits outside Rolex's warranty and service programme, Rolex does not service modified watches, so it should be understood as a customised piece.
