Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 40 Ref. 116509 | 18K White Gold | Chrysoprase Green

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 116509 in this configuration is one of the rarer things the brand makes: a solid 18k white gold Daytona with a natural green chrysoprase stone dial, part of the small "Beach" series of hardstone-dial Daytonas. Chrysoprase is a translucent apple-green variety of chalcedony, and because each dial is cut from natural stone, no two are quite alike, its name comes from the Greek chrysos, gold, and prasinon, green.

The whole watch is 18k white gold, case, bezel, pushers and Oyster bracelet, which gives it a stealthy quality: white gold reads much like steel at a glance, so only the weight and the extraordinary dial give it away. Applied white gold Roman numerals sit against the green, with three chronograph sub-dials and a tachymeter bezel for reading speed, the racing DNA the Daytona was built on.

Inside is the in-house Calibre 4130, Rolex's self-winding chronograph movement, with a column wheel, vertical clutch and around 72 hours of power reserve, chronometer-certified. The 40mm case is water resistant to 100 metres. This is a discontinued reference and the chrysoprase dial is among its scarcest variants, so it rarely comes to market.
