Bvlgari Octo Finissimo CarbonGold Automatic Watch

The Bvlgari Octo Finissimo CarbonGold Automatic is the carbon version of the watch that rewrote the rules on how thin a mechanical watch can be. The Octo Finissimo line holds eight world records in ultra-thin watchmaking, and this edition keeps that flatness, a 40mm case just 6.9mm thick, while swapping steel for forged carbon. The result is an anthracite, marbled matte finish that looks almost like stone and weighs next to nothing on the wrist.

The "CarbonGold" name is about contrast rather than a single alloy: the case, dial and bracelet are forged carbon, offset by carefully placed rose gold. The crown is polished 18k rose gold with a black ceramic insert, the hands and indexes are gold-coloured, and turning the watch over reveals gold bridges and a gold-plated micro-rotor through the sapphire caseback. On a dark, industrial carbon base, those warm gold touches read as genuinely refined rather than flashy.

Inside is Bvlgari's in-house Caliber BVL 138, an ultra-thin automatic movement just 2.23mm thick, with a 60-hour power reserve, and despite the slim build the watch is water resistant to 100 metres. It is the faceted octagonal Octo case that defines the family, all sharp angles and flat planes.
